Introduction (Emma Guard)

Hey everyone! My name is Emma Guard and I will be one of your vice chairs of the Non-Aligned Movement for BMUN 70! I’m a freshman here at Berkeley currently studying Global Studies and Data Science. After participating in high school MUN and attending BMUN as a delegate, I am incredibly excited to be a part of BMUN for the first time as a chair!

I’m from the Orange County area in Southern California, and growing up near the beach, I spent most of my time in the water, whether it be competitive swimming, open water swimming, surfing, or lifeguarding at my hometown beaches.  Since moving to the Bay, I’ve absolutely loved getting to know the area by visiting San Francisco, attending lots of concerts (especially at the Greek Theater on campus), and hiking around Berkeley. If not outside, I love a good book, crossword puzzle, or watching lots of movies with my roommates.

Being involved in Model UN as a high school student inspired me to continue studying International Relations-related subjects in college, which has led me to my current path as a Global Studies major with a concentration in Global Peace and Conflict here at UC Berkeley. This program opened so many doors for me as a high school student, helping me learn how to public speak, effectively research complex topics, and collaborate with peers to solve important international issues. Now, as a college student, it means so much that I have the opportunity to continue partaking in such a wonderful program as well as getting to create a learning environment for middle and high school students. As a former attendee of BMUN, I encourage everyone to make the most out of this experience, and to not only enthusiastically share your knowledge and solutions, but to learn more about your topics and MUN itself from our wonderful head chairs and staff. Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing all of you in March!
