Introduction! Laura Nguyen

Hi everyone!

My name is Laura Nguyen, and I will be your head chair for BMUN 70's Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). I don't even know how to begin to express how excited I am to see you all in March. In this post, I'll tell you a little bit about me; my amazing, cool, interesting, intelligent vice chairs will also be doing the same, so be sure to check out their introductions as well.

I'm currently a fourth-year majoring in Sociology and minoring in Data Science. I love learning about social and political theory, especially theories of feminism, racial justice and liberation, and capitalism. I'm currently writing my thesis about the various meanings of anti-communism to Vietnamese Americans in California; if you're interested in research, activism, and/or academia, I'd love to talk answer any questions or talk to you about it!

Not only am I in my last semester at Cal, but this BMUN conference will be my last little shebang with Model United Nations. I started doing MUN when I was 14, and it's introduced me to so many friends, mentors, and ways of seeing the world... I just know this BMUN will be a bittersweet end.

Outside of BMUN, I'm also involved with the Student Advocate's Office, a non-partisan office in our student government at Cal that helps students work through issues and grievances with the university. I've also had several work experiences with reproductive freedom/justice and the organizing and political advocacy sphere, so feel free to touch base with me about that too if you're interested.

After I graduate, I'm planning on dipping out of the U.S. and living in Vietnam for a little bit.

Please reach out to us any time at nambmunlxx@bmun.org if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best,

Laura

I have the pink hair! This is some of my friends and I at our annual BMUN retreat!
